Previous | Home | NextLavoisier's 3rd home was on Rue des Bons Enfants, about 700 meters north of the Louvre (where the Académie des Sciences was located). Lavoisier moved into this house with his new wife Marie Anne Pierette Paulze. He lived here 1771-1774 before moving on to La Petit Arsenal with its famous laboratory. However, he did perform some preliminary critical experiments on Bons Enfants, e.g., the oxidation of sulfur and phosphorus to show a gain of weight. At this time Lavoisier was beginning to appreciate the fact that air was not an inert medium, but a chemical reactant. This view is before renovation of the street, which was then called Rue Nueve des Bons Enfants.The view is southeast.
